Dr. Margret Klinge was the first to connect this vivid study by Teniers with his painting Kermesse, 1648-9, which is now in the Rockoxhuis in Antwerp (Brussels, 1980, op. cit., no. 246). This study showing a group of peasants with a bagpiper in the background is the only known study for the painting.
