Lot Essay

Anthony Molijn is known as a landscape painter in the style of Pieter de Molijn (1595-1661) who was possibly his father (M. de Kinkelder and A. van der Willigen, Dictionary of Dutch and Flemish Landscape and Marine painters working in oils, active before 1725, 1993-1998, typescript). According to the list of artists established by Vincent van der Vinne and published in 1702, Anthony Molijn was a member of the Haarlem guild (A. Bredius, Künstler-Inventare: Urkunden zur Geschichte der holländischen Kunst des XVIten, XVIIten und XVIIIten Jahrhunderts, The Hague, 1915-22, p. 2214).
