Lot Essay

A painting by Bilders of the same subject, dated 1834, is in the Centraal Museum, Utrecht (inv. 4313). The Sterrenburg was a bastion in the centre of Utrecht. Already in Bilders' time it had mostly been demolished, except for the house represented in the present drawing which is still extant today.
