From 1772 onwards van Drielst paid numerous visits to Eext in the province of Drenthe where he executed a large number of drawings depicting the farms and the woods around the village. Ten of these views are now in the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam; the earliest drawing is dated 1772 (RP-T-1918-35), the latest dated 1806 (RP-T-1892-A-2563). Although his drawings are inspired by nature, they also show the influence of the Dutch landscape artists from the Golden Age. Van Drielst was even dubbed the 'Drenthe Hobbema'.
