4° (330 x 274mm). Engraved title with vignette by W. Bartlett, two hand-coloured portraits and 55 hand-coloured aquatints by T. Sutherland and others after Whitcombe; two uncoloured etched illustrations on one plate. (Tissue guards somewhat spotted, generally not affecting plates or text, a few occasional minor spots.) Contemporary russia gilt, gilt edges (rebacked to style in calf); cloth slipcase.
FIRST EDITION, FIRST ISSUE, with the vignette on the title uncoloured and the plates with pre-publication J. Whatman 1812 watermark. A unique documentary record of naval engagements, the companion piece to Martial Achievements by the same publisher. Tooley notes that the two portraits were additional plates and 'the work is complete without them.' Abbey Life 337; Tooley 282.
