8° (218 x 140mm). An all-engraved work with title, 40 plates with horse portrait and text, some plates with added vignette, final index leaf. (Some light soiling.) Red morocco gilt by Riviere, gilt edges (joints lightly rubbed and slightly split).

RARE. ESTC records two issues, one printed for R. and R. Baldwin, the other published and sold by Henry Roberts: only one copy is located in each case (BL and Winterthur Museum). Huth records the work under a variant title, and also notes an 1820 edition. The thoroughbreds depicted were actually running from the 1720s to 1750s. Huth p. 38.
