4o (277 x 221mm). Mezzotint portrait frontispiece after Romney, by Caroline Watson, engraver. (Title spotted.) Contemporary green cross-grained morocco, richly gilt, initials “U.T.” at center of each side, a wide floral border containing lyre and cupid tools, the inner panel with roses at the corners, further tooled in blind, gilt edges concealing DOUBLE FORE-EDGE PAINTINGS OF WILD-DUCK AND SNIPE HUNTING SCENES, by Hering, with ticket (joints renewed preserving original spine). Provenance: Clarence S. Bement, numismatist and book collector (bookplate); acquired from Charles Retz, New York, 1949.

Two fine, early fore-edges, identified in an early 19th-century hand on the flyleaves.
