Oblong 4º. Hand-coloured engraved title and 19 hand-coloured etchings, 115 x 178mm. platemark; 205 x 262mm. sheets. (Plate 9 with two short marginal tears.) Modern half morocco preserving contemporary marbled boards, printed paper title label on front cover. Provenance: acquired from Inman, New York, 1946.

FIRST EDITION, being no. 1 of Ackermann’s Repository of Arts. Although according to the title label there are twenty-one coloured engravings, there are in fact only twenty, including the title itself, as here. The first seven, and final prints, are of old world shooting scenes. The remainder of the etchings portray game birds and sporting dogs. A scarce series, with only one other copy appearing in auction records in the last thirty-five years. Watermarked J Whatman 1809. Schwerdt I, p. 251.
