These wall-lights are directly influenced by the designs of the celebrated architect and ornemantiste Jean-Charles Delafosse (1734-1791). His book, Nouvelle Iconologie Historique, published in 1768, contains numerous drawings of similar wall-lights with arms draped with rich laurel swags. A pair of wall-lights of the same model are in the Residenz, Munich (H. Ottomeyer & P. Pröschel, Vergoldete Bronzen, Munich, 1986, vol. I, p. 186, fig. 3.9.1). Another pair of this design, but with a central bow, was sold anonymously at Christie's, New York, 19 May 2004, lot 167 ($11,352.50).
