The flared vases painted with flower-sprays, and one with figs, within arched blue and gilt mosaïque grounds edged with scrolls, the pierced stands with four elongated flower panels above gilt zig-zag borders (one vase with flat chip to upper and lower rim and minor chipping to stand, slight wear to gilding and minor glaze wear)
7 ½ in. (19 cm.) and 7 ¼ in. (18.5 cm.) high

This vase shape was introduced in three sizes in 1754 and the name of the form evolved from 'à la hollandoise' to 'hollandois' by 1756. For a discussion of the form, and for illustrations of the vases in the Wallace Collection, London, see Rosalind Savill, The Wallace Collection, Catalogue of Sèvres Porcelain, London, 1988, Vol. I, pp. 69-91. The Sèvres sales records for October 1759 to December 1763 (VY 3: 'ventes au comptant et à credit') list several 'vase Hollandois' but the descriptions are not specific enough to determine if any of them refer to the present lot. However, there are '2 Vases hollandois Mosaïque' mentioned in 1761 which could possibly be the present examples.

Jean-Baptiste Tandart was a painter who was active at Vincennes and Sèvres from 1754 until 1800, and Jacques-François Micaud was painting flowers and patterns there between 1757 and 1810.
