FIRST EDITION. Twyn was executed for publishing A Treatise of the Execution of Justice (1663), a pamphlet advocating the ousting of the 'bloody and oppressing' house of Stuart. Twyn’s co-conspirators, Thomas Brewster, bookseller, Simon Dover, printer, and Nathan Brooks, bookbinder, were pilloried and fined. Most of the witnesses, and half the jurors, were drawn from the trade. As a result the whole trial is of considerable bibliographical interest. Wing E-3668.
