NANI. – MORELLI, Jacopo (1745-1819). Codices Manuscripti Latini Bibliothecae Nanianae. Venice: Antonius Zatta, 1776. 4° (302 x 223mm). (Occasional light soiling.) 19th-century burgundy half roan, spine lettered directly and gilt in compartments, top edge gilt, others uncut (spine evenly faded). FIRST EDITION of Morelli’s description of more than 150 Latin codices in the Nani family collection, later presented to the Marciana Library. These include important, previously unpublished material, such as two long letters from Galileo to Dini concerning Copernicus’s system and prohibition, in which he argues that the Bible should not be used in settling scientific debates; only fragments of these letters had been published before. Another is the earliest life of the noted traveller Giambattista Vecchietti written by his brother Gerolamo. Riccardi I, 525.
