PART ONE LIMITED EDITION, NO.5 OF 30 COPIES on ‘grand papier vélin’ but part II a shorter copy on paper, part III again a larger copy. The auction catalogue of the library of Count Boutourlin (or Buturlin), one of the most outstanding book collectors of nineteenth-century Russia. Boutourlin (or Buturlin) was a Russian soldier, military historian, politician, and librarian of the Imperial Russian Library. This catalogue documents his second library; the first was destroyed during the burning of Moscow in 1812. Boutourlin formed his second library during his 15 year residence in Tuscany. Brunet considers it superior to the first collection. It included 244 manuscripts, 1,000 incunables, an almost complete collection of Aldine editions, a complete collection of books from Bodoni Press, as well as numerous other important works in the fields of theology, arts & sciences, literature and history. Brunet I, 1642-43.
