The sale contained 774 lots, which were sold over 5 days. A few books are priced in pencil in the margin. Turner was ‘an extremely refined collector of the Beckford type, a great connoisseur of French, Italian, and Spanish books’ (De Ricci). A portion of Turner's collection of rare French books was sold in Paris (12 March 1878).
