A FINELY CARVED BAMBOO BIRD CAGE
LATE QING DYNASTY, CIRCA 1906
The cage is carefully constructed in square form with tapered sides surmounted by a removeable domed cover, each of the main latticed sides supported by a rectangular panel exquisitely carved with various figures in garden landscape scenes, with exception of the back panel carved with chrysanthemum sprays and inscribed on the reverse, the removeable front panel is finely carved in openwork with flowers and tree shrews, detailed with a similarly carved ornamental frieze, the interior inserted with a bridge-form perch carved with prunus blossoms and attached with a small underglaze-blue ceramic floral-form bird feeder.
