QING DYNASTY, 18TH CENTURY
Each is carved in the form of a chrysanthemum blossom, the cover is carved with four rows of petals radiating outward from a central flowerhead, with each petal enclosing a floral spray. The base is carved en suite. The interior and base are lacquered black.

Compare to a closely related chrysanthemum-form cinnabar lacquer box and cover in the Tianjin Municipal Art Museum (fig. 1), illustrated in Zhongguo ciqi shoucang yu jianshang quanshu, vol. 2, Tianjin, p. 400, where it is dated to the mid-Qing period.
