QING DYNASTY, 18TH CENTURY
The boulder is finely carved with Liu Hai standing on top of a recumbent three-legged toad, his face with a jovial expression, his hands holding a gnarled branch bearing pomegranate fruits and attached with a double-gourd. The toad is depicted exhaling cloud scrolls supporting a flaming pearl at one terminal, aside a rounded box from which emanates lotus stalk. The greenish-white stone is partially suffused with greyish-brown inclusions.
3 3/4 in. (9.5 cm.) high
