Lot Essay

The cabriole chairs correspond to patterns executed by Gillows in the 1780s. Several related examples are illustrated in Susan Stuart, Gillows of Lancaster and London 1730 – 1840, Woodbridge, 2008, e.g. pp.181 – 2, pl. 148.
