The ash-tray applied with a bear supporting itself on one paw, the other paw clutching a broken branch, below him a pinned-on silver label inscribed in Cyrillic translating as "I can break the trees but I cannot make a shaft bow" from the fable of The Assiduous Bear by Ivan Krylov (1769/1844)
