With wood ribs and leather strapping, the top with applied brass plaque 'H.H. Princess Victoria of Schleswig Holstein', metal carrying handles to each side, old shipping labels to one side 'Registered via Outred' and 'London (Victoria) to Koln', the interior with label numbered '108549' and ribbon cross tufted lid, the lock numbered '08298'

Lot Essay

Princess Helena Victoria of Schleswig Holstein (1870-1948) was a grand-daughter of Queen Victoria. Her father was Prince Christian of Schleswig-Holstein and her mother, The Princess Helena was the fifth child of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. The present lot dates to before 1917 when George V changed the name of the British Royal House to the House of Windsor and the territorial designation of Schleswig-Holstein ceased to be used in titles.
