AN EGYPTIAN BRONZE NEITH
LATE PERIOD, 664-332 B.C.
Solid cast, depicted seated with her legs together, her feet on a rectangular integral plinth, both arms bent at the elbows with each hand fisted around a now-missing attribute, her left hand with the palm inward, her right lowered, wearing a tightly-fitted sheath and the Red Crown of Lower Egypt, her slender face with fine features, including modeled brows and conforming cosmetic lines, her eyes inlaid with gold or electrum, with a broad nose and full lips, the philtrum indicated, a tenon below for insertion, with a hieroglyphic inscription on the base, reading: “Neith, who gives life (to) Amen-ir-dis, son of Pef-ankh(?)-tja-kha born of Wadj-her”
