The box is applied with two metal handles and fitted with four drawers that each contain four rectangular inkcakes decorated with figures, chilong, flowers, pine trees and poetic inscriptions. Two of the inkcakes are dated to the year yichou of the Guangxu period (1875-1908), corresponding to the year 1889.
