Lot Essay
Born in 1985, Daisuke Sumita grew up in the technological age. His painting style often reminds viewers of computer-generated imageries - they are both rich in exquisite details and wildly imaginative. In a Safe Place #3 and In a Safe Place #4 (Lot 225) present us with beautifully rendered scenes that are delightfully poetic. In the former work, an elflike character dwells deep in the woods. The latter work is a scene of a forest being consumed by a conflagration. A couple sitting on a fallen tree cuddles in the foreground as if they are looking at a sunset. Sumita's works are surrealistic visual journeys that invite the viewers into his exuberantly sentimental inner sanctum.
