ONE OF 200 COPIES ON PAPER, EDITOR’S PRESENTATION COPY, inscribed on the front free endpaper, “To Bertrand Russell, C.-S., 24 July 1914.” It appears that Bertrand Russell did not hold onto this copy for long, since the same endpaper is further inscribed by him, “O. from B. 19 March 1915.” According to Anthony Hobson, in his extensive accompanying autograph note, the “O” is Lady Ottoline Morrell, who wrote "I found my friendship with Bertie Russell was giving me more assurance as I felt that if he could care for me and like to talk to me it meant that I was not so very stupid and dull" (Journals).
