One of the earliest maps to name United States, printed 20 days after the signing of the Paris peace treaty. “The territory allotted to the United states by the Treaty was enclosed by a dotted line and colored in green… “ (Stevens and Tree). The map shows the area from New Foundland in the north to the Gulf of Mexico in the South, from the Atlantic seacoast to the Lake of the Woods in the west. First issued in 1755, the map was reissued from the same plate with various changes in 1768, 1775, 1783 (this issue) and 1794. A map with “a long life, with changes to geography, imprint and title” (Backus McCorckle). The title within the cartouche of the map was entirely erased and replace with the above title. Next to the cartouche it includes article III of the Treaty of Paris. McCorckle, 783.1 and 755.2; Stevens and Tree 51 (d).
