Lot Essay

Eerelman is mostly known for his lifelike sketches and paintings of dogs and horses. From 1875 to 1902 he lived and worked in The Hague, where he made several portraits and other paintings commissioned by the Dutch Royal Family. It has been suggested that Princess Wilhelmina of the Netherlands is depicted in the Royal sleigh in the present lot.
