This magnifcent vessel is certainly by the same hand as another display piece commissioned for the Ògògà of Ikere, now in the British Museum, collected in 1924 (inv. no. 1924,136) (see Philips, ed, 1995, p.425, catalogue number 5.85). The faces and treatment of the sentry fgures around the rim have royal connotations and a similar treatment of the fgures in both the crown and this vessel suggest that the latter was made for use by Ògògà himself, or for an important royal presentation” (Christie’s London, Tribal Art, 4 July 1989, p. 40 [auction catalogue]). A beaded crown, ade, in the collection of the Brooklyn Museum of Art, inventory number 70.109.1a-b, also created for Onijagbo Obasoro Alowolodu, Ògògà of Ikere 1890-1928 , is by the same hand.

Ce magnifque récipient fut certainement réalisé par le même artiste qu’une autre pièce commandée pour l’Ògògà d’Ikere, collectée en 1924 et aujourd’hui conservée au British Museum (inv. no. 1924,136) (voir Philips, éd., 1995, p.425, cat.5.85). Les visages et le traitement des figurines sur le pourtour renvoient à l’iconographie royale. Les similitudes entre la couronne et le récipient suggèrent que ces deux oeuvres furent fabriquées pour l’usage d’Ògògà lui-même, ou pour être utilisées lors d’une rencontre royale importante » (Christie’s, Londres, 4 juillet 1989, p.40).
Une couronne perlée, ade, faisant aujourd’hui partie de la collection du Brooklyn Museum of Art, inv.70.109.1a-b, fut également créée par le même artiste pour Onijagbo Obasoro Alowolodu, l’Ògògà d’Ikere (1890-1928).
