Ralph Jentsch has confirmed the authenticity of this work.

According to Ralph Jentsch, George Grosz shared a studio in Berlin-Südende with his colleague Herbert Fiedler when he first moved to Berlin. In this drawing, Grosz depicted his friend sitting on the sofa with a model standing before him.
