The present vases were inspired by a Meissen model, part of a set of four 'Elements' vases produced in two sizes. See F. Severne McKenna, Chelsea Porcelain, The Gold Anchor Wares, 1952, plate 22, fig. 41. For another similar example, see The Property of Canadian Collectors, Christie's, New York, 11 October 2007, lot 175. The dual markings of both the gold anchor and patch marks help date these pieces to circa 1765, though present scholarship is leaning towards them being possibly earlier.
