The tall fluted glass trumpet supported on a naturalistic base adorned with an Emu, the plinth inscribed 'Presented to R. W. Hanbury Esq. J. P. by the employes (sic) of the Coppice Colliery on the occasion of his marriage with Miss Hamilton, September 11 1884.'

Lot Essay

R. W. Hanbury (1845-1903) was a landowner and Member of Parliament, best known for his role as President of the Board of Agriculture. He owned a number of collieries in the Tamworth area of the West Midlands.
