Lot Essay

On 25 October 1956, Helen Kapp, Director of the City Art Gallery and Museum, Wakefield, wrote to William Scott: 'I am happy to tell you that 2 small works have been sold Three Pears, Pan, Plate and Knife (£45) and Reclining Woman (£20)'.

The drawing on the reverse of Reclining Woman relates to Seated Nude, 1954 (S. Whitfield (ed.), William Scott Catalogue Raisonné of Oil Paintings, Vol. 2 1952-1959, London, 2013, p. 108, no. 253).
