Rectangular with cut corners and cut-out acanthus leaf borders, cover set with oval carnelian below agate button, box opens by pushing agate button to right whilst at same time pushing in button on front side, the spring inside cover formed as a boy with raised arms, base with pinned-on silver reserve inscribed Ed. Dr. Edward Phillips M.D. of Plealey near Pontesbury, died 4th April 1713, aged 45. He was a member of the Drapers Company as well as a doctor and his father had been Mayor of Shrewsbury. The box is accompanied by a letter from the Borough Librarian and Curator at Castle Gates, Shrewsbury, dated September 1959, providing details about the names on the box
