the inverted break front case with fluted pilasters to the front, with mouldings to the cornice and foliate carving to a frieze below the dial, lacking cresting, the dial with silvered chapter ring and matted centre, gilt-metal foliate spandrels and subsidiary slow/fast and chime/silent rings above, the twin barrel movement with anchor escapement, with hour strike on gong and chimes on further gong, stamped for W & H on the backplate, German, early 20th century -- 14½in.(37cm.) high
