A pug dog from the Mottahedeh collection, similarly modeled with 'clipped' ears, is illustrated by Howard and Ayers, China for the West, London and New York, 1978, vol. II, pp. 598-600, no. 623, where the authors state these models of dogs were inspired by Meissen examples by Kändler made from circa 1734 onwards.
