This statue represents the young King Henry de Navarre and was a propaganda tool to promote and glorify the return of the Bourbon Monarchy. The plaster model was first exhibited at the 1822 Salon with much acclaim. A marble as well as a silver copy were commissioned circa 1824 by the Maison du Roi to be placed in Louis XVIII's cabinet at the Tuileries.
