A GEORGE III NEEDLEWORK-COVERED MAHOGANY ARMCHAIR

With original needlework, the back with a crest and the motto of the Order of the Garter "Honi soit qui mal y pense", the seat embroidered with a "B" in a cartouche, probably for Richard Temple-Nugent-Brydges-Chandos-Grenville, 1776-1839, 2nd Marquess of Buckingham, later 1st Duke of Buckingham & Chandos
Provenance
Almost certainly supplied to Richard Grenville, Earl Temple, created Marquess of Buckingham (d. 1813) for Stowe, Buckinghamshire, and by descent to The 3rd Duke of Buckingham and Chandos (d. 1889), and by descent to his daughter Lady Kinloss (d. 1944) and by descent.
