Lot Essay

See two nearly identical stands, sold at Christie's New York, 28 March 1996, lot 241 and Christie's Paris, 10 December 2014, lot 190, each supporting a stepped cabinet carved en suite with dragons amidst clouds. The present example has the same thick proportions and fine carving, suggesting that it may also have once supported a small cabinet.
