A LARGE ZITAN WAISTED STAND
18TH CENTURY
The top has a large central medallion finely carved in openwork with a lotus flower amidst ruyi heads and floral scroll encircled by two beaded borders and a finely beaded, petal-lobed outer edge above a waist pierced with ruyi and floral scroll. The shoulder is finely carved with two rows of chrysanthemum petals above a pierced and shaped apron with beaded edge. The whole is raised on five elegantly curved cabriole legs terminating in scroll-form feet, finely carved with beaded edges and joined by a humpback base stretcher of conforming shape raised on small tab feet. The base is inscribed with the single cyclical character yi.
