Lot Essay

This portrait appears to be another version of an equestrian portrait offered at Sotheby's, London, 22 April 2015, lot 156. The Sotheby's example was attributed to the late 17th century with a suggestion that the sitter might be Allahvardi Khan. The mughal noble is portrayed in the famous British Library painting 'Allahvardi Khan out hawking', dated circa 1660.
