The identification at the top of the painting reads as 'Sir je Si' and seem to points towards Jai Singh, Raja of Kulu (r. 1731-42) whose portraits show the same features as the present figure, a thin long face, loose hair and thin moustache (Archer, W. G., Indian painting from the Punjab Hills, London, 1973, cat. Baghal 9 - 11 and Kahlur 22).
