A chapter from a larger volume, on the different types of astrolabes, Arabic manuscript on European watermarked paper, 29ff. as numbered, each folio with 17ll. of black andalusi script, titles in red, with catchwords, occasional marginal notes, risala of the author ending on folio 26 as per marginal note, followed by a chapter on astronomy, later added notes on first and final folio, in restored stamped morocco binding

Lot Essay

Ibn al-Saffar was a Spanish astronomer and mathematician who lived in Cordoba and died in Denia in 1035. He is famous for his treatise on the astrolabe and astronomical tables.
