Lot Essay

With its bold illuminated headpieces and its small charming miniatures, this manuscript is typical of the type of work produced in Shiraz in the second half of the 16th century. It is signed at the end of one of the chapters by Pir Muhammad bin Qasim. A scribe called Pir Muhammad signed a copy of Jami's Haft Awrang executed in Shiraz and dated AH 1006/1596-97 now in Russia (Marianna Shreve Simpson, Sultan Ibrahim's Mirza Haft Awrang, Washington, 1997,p.376). It is very tempting to suggest that both scribes are the same person.
