Lot Essay

The Kitab isharat wa tanbihat (the Book of Remarks and Admonitions) is a treatise on philosophy (B.A. Rosenfeld and E.Ihsanoglu, Mathematicians, Astronomers and other Scholars of Islamic Civilisation and their Works (7-19th Century), Istanbul, 2003, no. 317, PH4, pp. 122-28). It was translated into French by A.M. Goichon, Le livre des directives et remarques, Paris, 1951.

Nasir al-Din Tusi (d. 1274 AD), the famous Persian polymath, composed a famous commentary on al-isharat wa al-tanbihat during his stay with the Isma'ilis of Alamut. It is a major contribution to Ibn Sina's philosophy and its interpretation. It was intended, at least in part, as a response to al-Razi's commentary on the Isharat.
