Persian manuscript on cream paper, six folios plus two fly-leaves, each folio with 6ll. of elegant black nasta'liq script, each line within cartouche between floral arabesques in gold and polychrome, text panel with gold and polychrome rules, margins finely illuminated with polychrome and gold medallions, opening bifolio heavily and finely illuminated in gold and polychrome with headpiece and floral margins, final bifolio with witness notes and seal impressions, colophon dated, in original green velvet covered binding

Lot Essay

This exquisitely illuminated document is a copy of the marriage certificate of 'Ismat al-Muluk, daughter of Dust Muhammad Khan Mua'yyir al-Mamalik and granddaughter of Nasir al-Din Shah, to Mustawfi al-Mamalik Mirza Hasan. The marriage was celebrated in Rajab AH 1310/January-February 1893 AD. Mustawfi al-Mamalik Mirza Hasan served as Prime Minister of Iran on six occasions between 1910 and 1927.
