A LARGE SAFAVID-STYLE POTTERY BOTTLE

The drop-shaped body rising from a splayed circular foot to a slightly tapering ringed neck, flattened on either side, painted in blue and red on white ground, the front and back with a red floral spray within a large drop-shaped medallion, the sides with cusped palmettes containing scrolling vine, the neck with vertical bands of floral vine interspersed with cusped medallions, the rim with a band of groups of three vertical lines, the base with old gallery label reading "Au Vase Etrusque, 20 Blvd. Malesherbes, PARIS" and with inventory number 260 6 (?) 0 an 438

The Parisian gallery “Au Vase Etrusque”, dealing in luxury porcelain, was managed by Louis Damon who also dealt in glass works in close co-operation with Auguste and Antonin Daum in Nancy. Damon exhibited his works during the Paris Exposition Universelle in 1900 where he was awarded for his works (Cappa, G. Le Genie Verrrier de l’Europe, Mardaga, Sprimont 2008, pp. 210 - 211)
