The Euaion Painter is thought to have been a student of the renowned painter Douris, and may have even taken over and continued his workshop into the next generation. He is considered a master of the High Classical period of red-figure painting, and is renowned for his work on cups, which are distinguishable by tall, thin figures executed with little overlapping. Scenes of Dionysiac revels, as with the present lot, are amongst his most favoured.
