It is rare to find a trestle-leg table of this substantial size and with such a massive plank of jumu. The unusual openwork panels finely carved with a scholar's rock, rising from a narrow base to form a large cresting overhang, makes the present table even more rare. Compare a black-lacquer trestle-leg table, dated 17th-18th century, illustrated in H. Chiang, The Art of Woodworking - an Exhibition of Chinese Antique Furniture, Beijing, no. 29 with openwork panels carved with scholars rocks.
