A RARE LIME-GREEN-ENAMELED STEMMED OFFERING DISH
DATED BY THE INSCRIPTION TO THE RENYIN YEAR OF GUANGXU PERIOD, CORRESPONDING TO 1902
Raised on a tall, baluster stem with stepped base, the shallow dish slopes slightly downwards to the center and is inscribed on the exterior of the upright sides with a sixteen-character archaistic inscription which incorporates a cyclical date corresponding to 1902, and indicates that this is a ritual vessel of the Tao family temple guarded by its descendents for generations. The stemmed offering dish is covered overall, including the inside the foot, with enamel of lime-green color.

This unusual vessel relates to a group of archaistic porcelain vessels covered in a variety of monochrome glazes dating to the late Qing dynasty. See, for example, the group of archaistic vessels, also dated to the Guangxu period, from the Rende Zhai Collection, formed between the years 1949-1970s, sold at Christie's New York, 15 September 2011, lot 1603-1604 and lots 1607-1608.
