'SHANGHAI MOONS'
A set of four one hand watches
2015
1/—, 2/—, 3/—, 4/—
Designers Yann Debelle de Montby (Shanghai, China),Tiziano Vudafieri and Claudio Saverino (Milan, Italy)
Each watch features a different face of the moon on an exquisite hand-etched clock face, the design based on Nasa moon photographs - full moon, first quarter, last quarter and new moon. They only carry a hand painted red steel hour hand as a reflexion on our relationship with Time. The watch talks beautifully about the luxury of not being obsessed with the minute-punctuality. Looking at Time as peaceful and relaxing, giving a sense of direction to our dreams, like a compass indicating the Moon instead of the North. These four watches are very poetic and romantic, the Moon being feminine, powerful, reassuring, and even sometimes protective. As adults and children, we did find in the moon a kind of confidence, a friend or a lover… This mechanical watch collection is all about magic and dream, through the single-minded, endless, dreamy pursuit of precision of its mechanism and its tribute to the ever inspiring powerful and mysterious Moon. The advanced tourbillon mechanism is handmade and manufactured by Heng Bao. This “Object of Curiosity” is inspired by the designers’ childhood universe. Boys who, like Saint Exupéry’s Little Prince, dreams about coming from an outer planet, and keeps looking for answers through the sky, the clouds and of course the most mysterious, the most fascinating, and sometimes difficult to catch .. the Moon; signed inside the watch Imagined by Yann Debelle de Montby Tiziano Vudafieri Claudio Saverino, numbered 1/—, 2/—, 3/— and 4/— on the back cover of the shell; limited edition of 8 sets, this one being the first one revealed; along with a beautiful box in African blackwood with a moon painted on top, and a cactus pin.
4.4 cm diam. (1¾ in.)
Garnet brown shagreen, steel, copper, domed sapphire crystal and titanium
