Publisher of Paul Strand's books and portfolios since 1968, and as stewards of the Paul Strand Archive (since 1983), after Strand's death, the Aperture Foundation has worked to make Strand’s work accessible to the public, including through keeping the photographer’s seminal photo books in print, publishing new books, and overseeing the sale of prints to institutional collections around the world. Today, Aperture works in partnership with the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the home of the Paul Strand Collection, to preserve and promote Strand's legacy.
Christie’s Photographs department is honored to present lots 152-155, exquisite early prints by Paul Strand from the Aperture Foundation. Proceeds from the sale of these lots, along with lots 23 and 35 in our Evening Sale will support the nonprofit Aperture Foundation’s outstanding roster of photography exhibitions and publications.
